Foundation Programme

What is Foundation Programme?
Pre-university Foundation Programmes are the established route for International students who have finished their high school examinations and wish to attend a UK university. The Foundation course is a bridge between international students’ current qualifications and UK university undergraduate entry. It is designed to consolidate and expand academic knowledge and terminology, improve the level of English, and familiarise international students with UK culture, and study methods in preparation for university.
Why study Foundation Programme?
A foundation course is a programme that will prepare you for an undergraduate degree at university. They are specifically designed for international students who want to study in the UK.

Studying a foundation course will help you attain the correct level of qualifications and skills to pursue a degree at university – it will also help students who require additional English language support. A foundation year is usually available as a three-term programme which is made up of academic modules and specific modules related to your chosen subject.

A foundation year bridges the gap if you do not have the right qualifications to go straight on to an undergraduate degree programme. It provides a broad introduction to subjects of your choice and helps you gain valuable academic, study and English language skills.

What can I study in Foundation Programme?

UK universities usually require Foundation programme to offer 3 or 4 subjects. It should be noted that some subjects are compulsory within specific Foundation Programmes, e.g. Mathematics and Mechanics for all Engineering students. In contrast, in some Foundation Programmes, the subject choice is more flexible, e.g. Law, where almost any combination of subjects could be offered.

International Year 1

What is International Year One?
Equivalent to undergraduate year one, International Year One provides a higher level of academic and English language support specifically designed to meet the needs of international students. With smaller class sizes and more individual attention than they would receive via direct entry, international students progress to their degree feeling better prepared for the challenges of studying at a UK university. Following successful completion of International Year One, students could direct entry to undergraduate year two, which allows students to save time and money.
Why study International Year One?
International Year One is the ideal choice for students who do not meet the requirements for direct entry to a degree, but who are over-qualified for a foundation programme. Students can choose from a wide range of universities offering something for everyone.

On successful completion, most courses guarantee progression to the second year of a bachelor’s degree, which is very cost-effective.
